2002 marks the eleventh year that active and retired firefighters have ventured to the north coast to dive for abalone to benefit the San Francisco Firefighters Union Local 798 sponsored Toy Program luncheon. This year eleven firefighters made the trip to the Stillwater Cove campground on the Sonoma Coast. Under the direction and skilled eye of divemaster and retired Assistant Chief Bill Bassett, divers once more enjoyed a successful day in the water. Fortunately, most divers were able to bag limits, all of which was graciously donated to benefit the luncheon. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed the campfire, conversation, and a terrific pasta dinner prepared by Bob Moore (of the Rescue Squad). The only missing ingredient on this years dive was the presence of our senior ringmaster Louie Grossmann. His untimely death cast a very sad shadow over the campsite. Louie was a permanent fixture at the Toy Program and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Finally, please remember that without the support of Firefighters Local 798, the Toy Program would cease to exist, as we know it today. We offer our sincerest thanks for your continued support of this important and worthwhile program. |
