Road to Recovery: Invest in Your Safety

Dear Community Stakeholders,

On behalf of the nearly 1,700 Firefighters, Paramedics, and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD), I am proud to present San Francisco Firefighters Local 798’s Road to Recovery: Invest in Your Safety publication for 2021. Hard copies of this book are being printed now and will be distributed to city leaders, fire stations, and other key stakeholders over the next several weeks. In the meantime, please take a few minutes to click on the link above to review the entire publication electronically as important Budget decisions by the City and County of San Francisco will be made in the coming weeks and the SFFD needs support to continue our work saving lives and property in our City.

Through all of the challenges of 2020, our San Francisco Firefighters and Paramedics continued to go above and beyond the call of duty to provide lifesaving service under the most difficult and dangerous circumstances imaginable.

As San Francisco continues to recover, the Board of Supervisors will be asked to make extremely difficult budget decisions. It is essential that they do not support anything that will put the public or our Firefighters and Paramedics at greater risk. While the demands on our job continue to grow, it is our hope that the necessary funding will be put into place to maintain and expand San Francisco’s public safety needs.

With that in mind, it is critical that we secure adequate funding to support:

• An increase in staffing levels of SFFD Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs, and administrative personnel.
• The replacement of our aging fleet of ambulances and fire apparatus.
• The lifesaving Disaster Preparedness projects and programs of the SFFD.

We hope that this publication will serve as a guide for the discussions as to why funding our Fire Department should be the top priority for our city leaders. It is also my request that you stand in solidarity with your community Firefighters as we enter this budget Season.

As a proud SFFD Firefighter and lifelong San Franciscan, I am honored and privileged to serve as the President of the finest Firefighters and Paramedics in our nation. I thank you for your ongoing support as we attempt to close the gap of these critical needs.

Sincerely,

Shon Buford

President
